Special settings

In Mirror’s Edge (2008), it is possible to tweak some settings such as the field of view (FOV) or to activate a third person view.
This page will explain how to do this.

Tweaking the FOV

Open the folder \My Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\Config and open the file TdInput.ini in a text editor.
Then use the search function (CTRL+F) to find section [Engine.PlayerInput], then add the following lines in this section:

Bindings=(Name="NumPadZero",Command="FOV 0",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadOne",Command="FOV 15",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadTwo",Command="FOV 30",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadThree",Command="FOV 40",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadFour",Command="FOV 55",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadFive",Command="FOV 65",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadSix",Command="FOV 80",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadSeven",Command="FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadEight",Command="FOV 100",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="NumPadNine",Command="FOV 110",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

This way, every key of your numerical keypad will be assigned a different degree of view in the game. The bigger the number, the stronger the zoom effect.
You can change the values as you wish and you can assign these tweaks to the function keys (F1 to F12) of your keyboard by replacing for instance "NumPadOne" by "F1".
Avoid any conflict with other actions already binded to these keys.
If you don’t find file TdInput.ini it may be because you have never started the game. Do so and the files will be created.
If you try to use a sniper rifle after you have altered the FOV in the game, the zoom won’t work. You will have to press "0" to get back to default FOV.

Free camera and third person view

This option will allow you to use different camera modes, including a "free camera" and a "third person view".
Open the folder \My Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\Config and open the file TdInput.ini in a text editor.
Then use the search function (CTRL+F) to find the line containing "F5". Then right above this line (or under, it doesn’t matter), add the following:

Bindings=(Name="F4",Command="FreeFlightCamera",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

In the game, pressing F4 will activate this view change. Press F4 several times to switch between modes and then get back to normal.

How to freeze the action

It is also possible to freeze the action. If you do that and then use the free camera, you will be able to turn around Faith or any enemy like in The Matrix.
To enable this option, follow the instructions of section "Free camera and third person view" but this time, use the following code:

Bindings=(Name="MiddleMouseButton",Command="TdPause" ,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

The function will be assigned to your middle mouse button, but like before, you can assign it to any of your keyboard’s keys if it’s not already used for something else.

Ultra high resolution screenshots

There’s another great option in Mirror’s Edge: it allows you to take screenshots in a resolution several times bigger than your computer screen’s.
To do that, open the following file with a text editor:
My Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\Config\TdInput.ini
Then, right after "bEnableMouseSmoothing", paste this line:

Bindings=(Name="F1",Command="Tiledshot 4",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

Thanks to this line, if you press F1 in the game, it will capture a screenshot four times the resolution of your screen. Of course, it will take some time, but the result is quite impressive.
The picture is usually saved in My Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\ScreenShots
You can change the "Tiledshot" number, but the bigger it is, the more time it takes to capture and the bigger the picture will be, making it difficult to handle.
Here’s an example with several ultra high res screenshots.

    Okay… but, how do you make a shortcut for normal, non-huge screenshots? The tiled thing seems to have the problem that on the game’s end screen, the mirror’s edge logo overlayed on the screen is tiled on every sub-shot 😛

    Well you can just use any screenshot software like Fraps of other similar ones. Or maybe try ”tiledshot 1”, or just ”screenshot”. Never tried it but it might work.
